Boot sequence problems

Hi guys,

I have 3 HDD's and an Abit IP35 Pro.

A WD Caviar Black 750GB, my primary drive.
A WD something 500Gb, my secondary drive.
A Maxtor 300Gb, my media drive in an Icybox external caddy, connected via eSATA.

Both internal drives are connected to internal SATA ports and are correctly detected in the BIOS.

This setup has worked perfectly for over a year. Until the other day I went to boot my machine up and got BOOT MGR IS MISSING.

Unplugging the eSATA Media drive fixes this problem.

But the problem is, as soon as I plug the eSATA drive back in, the problem returns and the machine won't boot.

I've checked the boot sequence in the BIOS - first boot device is 'Hard Drive' and Hard Drive boot sequence, a seperate menu, is correct, with the 750Gb drive set as priority 1.

Yet still - whenever the media drive is plugged in via eSATA, the computer attempts to boot from it and fails.

Why has it suddenly started doing this and how can I fix it?

Ta!

There 'should' be an option in the BIOS relating specifically to allowing booting from external media, though more commonly this is usually USB. From what I understand, this can override any given boot order.

I'm afraid I can't be more specific, and hopefully someone will know what I'm on about to say right or wrong, but it might give you something to look for.

As to why it would only just start happening... I don't know. Presuming nothing has changed within the BIOS, no upgrades done, I can only guess as to something has been put onto the drive that wasn't there before which it is detecting as bootable.

Hi, Memphis you are spot on, I had to disable "Boot Other Device" on my XFX board and all was fine no more BOOT MGR IS MISSING error message. Bios is Phoenix-Award. Hope it helps.
