I came to boot up my PC the other day and instead of it just booting straight into Windows (Win 7 btw) like usual, it went to the screen where you have to click on the user icon - even though there is only one user account!?!?!

I've been back in to change the userpasswords setting but its still bugging me that its changed out of the blue on its own!!!

I think it was after a windows update - anyone else had this happen??

In user accounts is there only the one account? If so then you might have put it into Sleep mode or Hibernation in which case the default behaviour is for Windows to ask for the password on the account if there is one.

This is a quote from another forum:

There are a few ways to fix this but I do this: Go into the Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management. Expand "Local Users and Groups", highlight "Users" and you should see your account in the right pane. Right click on your account and set a password.

Follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, and type "control userpasswords2" without quotes.

2. Highlight your account and uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer".

3. Click Apply.

4. Enter the password, then click OK.

5. Click OK again and you're all done.

This also worked for someone else with the same problem:

If you have only one user, and don't need the account password protected, just reset the password to nothing in the User Control Panel App and it should boot without the login screen.

Here's how to sort it. 100% guaranteed, without faffing about.

1. Open start menu and type, "netplwiz" minus quotes
2. click on the displayed program.
3. untick the only checkbox.
4. leave password field blank
5. save, exit and restart.

I had the same issue last week. Pain in the ****

Thanks for all the replies guys - definitely didnt hibernate/sleep the PC - it did it twice in fact!

Seems to have fixed itself now so I'll see if it does it again!
