Problem

On booting up my computer gets stuck on the motherboard flash screen with the options DEL for setup and TAB for bios post, the only way to progress is to hit tab where the computer displays a windows error recovery prompting to insert a windows cd (which i do not know where it is) after choosing the boot up option it gets to the login screen some 10 mins later, this used to be a 90-120 second operation

I have made some changes in an attempt to speed up the boot time of my pc however it has had a negative effect, the changes i made were:

- enabling the hard drive the primary boot device, followed by cd then usb external drive
- Deleted the temps file (found by searching %temps%)
- Disabled some startup programs and services (nothing i saw that would effect negatively though)

I have tried correcting my changes where possible however the problem persits, i have also tried repairing windows via the system restore function under restore files to a time where the problem didnt exist

Anything i can do to get back to my original boot time

thanks for your time

My first port of call with all of this is to check the event viewer, login to windows and type

eventvwr

into the "run" command. That'll open the viewer.

Check out the system tab for critical (red) events, there's usually some clue, it may be event ID 7 which is a failing HDD, although that's just one of many that may show.
