Boot Up Problem.

Hey,

This is the second time this has happened - with two different solid state drives, so I don't think they can be at fault. It's where I start up my pc, and am greeted by the message asking you to press a key to continue / enter cd etc, so naturally I go into the bios and make sure the boot order is correct...1st - ssd, but it doesn't make any difference. Eventually (I'm not really sure how), I managed to get into my desktop. The first time it happened, I couldn't get anywhere at all, so had no option other than to reinstall windows.

Is there anything you can think of as to why it might be doing this? It worked fine this morning.

Cheers.

One thing that comes to mind is check in your bios that the drive is set to AHCI mode. I had a random event similar to this and that was the cause.

Switching to either IDE or ACHI makes no difference. The only thing I notice is that sometimes the message upon booting doesn't appear, with just a flashing cursor in its place.

It seems to be more stable in IDE mode.

Perhaps look at flashing the latest BIOS for the mobo if you haven't done so already, it almost sounds like some kind of incompatibility going on. Or reset the BIOS to defaults, in case a setting is wrong somewhere.

Sounds like boot manager issue. Did you install without any other drives attached, just the ssd?

Yes, I just installed on one drive at a time.

I've tried all available bios options : F18, F21, F22 and F23b.

I did install a new psu a few days ago, but everything ran fine for a couple of days before this happened.
