Ol' Ballymoney
oki got a new cpu today.

i turned on my computer with my old chip in, everything is working, turn it off put the new chip in and all the fans start i get the usual beep (i think) from the mobo but the screen doesn't come on.

what's wrong here? is it the new chip or what?

What processor are you upgrading to? Maybe you need a BIOS update for the motherboard to support it?

edit i swapped the chips back around and the old one works so it's not like i unplugged something, would i need to update my bios or something? :(

Nope shouldn't need a BIOS update for that. Could try clearing the CMOS with the E6600 in but it shouldn't have a problem booting up.

i actually don't think i get a beep from the mobo when the 6600 is in....you recokn the chip is just dead?

btw how would i do that? and how do i update the bios i've never done it like.

ok i just found this:

Intel E6600(2.4GHz,4MB) 1066 F6
Intel E6300(1.86GHz,2MB) 1066 F8

i assume that the 6600 does need different bios then?

EDIT:
my bios are F6 atm what should update them to? F10?
