Bootable hard drive diag disc?

My brothers PC is blue screening all over the place, and I think that the problem may well be the hard drive. Is there any program which can be booted from CD which can check the HDD sectors? We can't get it into Windows at all.

Effectively I am after a Memtest for the hard drive...

Chances are that the Manu of the drive will have bootable diagnostic utilities available on their site!

http://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm is another option that I know about. I would look at the Manu site first though.

While at it make Hiren's Boot CD and you'll have whole boatload of testing tools in single disc.
