Bootcamp gaming question.

Would run natively, though the latest titles might not be such a good choice given the limited GPU power of most Macs. Last gen titles such as HL2 and Call of Duty etc should run fine.

As for the second question no not at all

i really want to play css, and also tf2... im on a macbook pro

As said, they run just like on a PC with the same hardware.

CSS would obviously not be a problem. I imagine TF2 wouldn't be that stressing, depending on which MBP you have.

The 1600's are pretty weak unfortunately. I have one in my MBP (128mb) and it struggles with COD2 on medium-high settings (on 1400x900).

CSS should still be alright thanks to its age - I haven't played TF2 so I'll leave someone else to answer that.

RAM and CPU should be grand though (as you'd expect) - just down to the GPU.

It should be ok.. I ran WoW on my almost identical spec one for quite a while. Ran pretty much the same as my 24" iMac (white one with the bigger, better graphics card)

I've been playing a bit of TF2 on bootcamp on my 15" MBP 2.16ghz / x1600 and for the most part with everything on low/off it runs ok, just don't be a Pyro :D the act of setting lots of people on fire does seem to have an effect on the GPU :)

Not too well I wouldn't have thought red. Would you really want to play it on a 13" screen anyway?

I've got the top spec MBP (one just before the penryn proccessor) and it runs COD4 without any trouble on medium to high settings.

I was just about to post a thread about gaming on the mac, but spotted this so one, hope I am not too far off topic...

I am well out of touch with PC gaming as have had my 360 for all my needs, but since getting the iMac I have been wondering about some games that are usually just more suited to a desktop. I quite fancy playing some resource manager style games (think thats what they're called?) Stuff like Sim City, Caesar, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Civilization etc.. Are any games made for the Macs as a platform or will I have to go the Boot Camp route?

Have a browse of these:

^^^ Cheers :)

Been thinking a bit more about trying out Boot Camp as I would quite like to check out Company Of Heroes and see how well the 8800GS goes. Is the process of getting a Boot Camp'd mac to play games quite painfull? Will I need to get the latest Nvidia drivers etc? What about sound?

It's really really easy :) I got a 24" imac the other day and boot camp is a case of running the boot camp assistant application in OS X, choosing how much space you want on the bootcamp partition, clicking next, inserting your XP/Vista disc and selecting restart or continue, it reboots the machine and immediately starts installing :)

And when XP/Vista is installed either put the 1st restore/leopard CD in the drive and it will install all the relevant drivers for things like bluetooth, the trackpad, isight etc. and all the hardware drivers automatically.

Excellent, that does sound nice and easy! So all the graphics drivers were ok? I haven't owned a Nvidia card before, but on my old PC there were all the Catalyst Control programs for my Ati card.... do you get any of the Nvidia Display Control programs etc from the restore disc? What version on Nvidia drivers does it give you - eg are they quite recent?

Finally, I haven't got an brand new copy of XP lying around, only the one that was on my old PC (which is now dead). Will I be able to use that one?
