Ok, first off I've never used Bootcamp. I have Parallels and normally use that for the same reason.. to keep from having to install crap into my leopard install (as you can tell I'm a bit freaky like that!). Basically my Leopard install stays pristine as it's my domestic machine.

I understand that I will need a new install of windows as the switch from parallels to bootcamp and back will cause windows to reinstall drivers each time (causing more hassle).

I have an X2 based XP machine and was thinking of switching that to my MBP running under Bootcamp and selling the X2.

I have an external 1TB drive (FW800) - could I use that that for windows or would I have to run off the internal MBP drive?

On both of my macs, I use the bootcamp partition in parallels. No driver issues. Although admittedly I crippled the work mac's bootcamp as I installed SP3 within parallels and now it'll only boot under parallels.

I think you have (or at least should!) run it off the internal mbp drive. XP doesn't need much space, after all.
