Hi,

I want to run Bootcamp and VMWare Fusion.

- Can VMWare fusion run from my Bootcamp setup so it can share the same files?
- How does activation for Windows work with VMWare Fusion?
- Does VMWare Fusion work with Vista x64 without problems?

Thanks.

Ok, after a lot of digging I found:

- Can VMWare fusion run from my Bootcamp setup so it can share the same files?
Yes, you can (in a recent release).

But I'd love answers to the other two.

What hardware? As far as I know, Vista x64 is only supported by certain Apple hardware. I know it's supported on the Mac Pro but don't know what else.

I've had no activation issues but I've always used volume licence keys where it doesn't matter if the perceived hardware changes.

Ive installed vista x64 with bootcamp and have vmware fusion. VMWare picks up the vista installation but cant boot from it. But it can boot from a vista x64 installation that was on an old hard drive from my PC.

Also, do I have to go into windows to change the default OS from windows to OSX? Annoying booting up my mac and it goes into windows first

Most of the Mac Intel cores are 64bit. So it will work with VMware but I wouldn't bother. If you are going to install 64bit put it in bootcamp, will get the better performance that way. Any license will work.

Well if I install vista x64 via bootcamp I can then run a VM using VMWare Fusion which saves space and time for when I just need windows for 5minutes.
Means 1 install can be ran as a VM and seperate OS

Well if you don't need it that much, whats the point in 64 bit?

But if you are only using it for a 5 minutes then VM is the best option as long as that process is not CPU heavy.
