Booting from thunderbolt?

Just to clarify, an SSD in a thunderbolt caddy can be used to boot an iMac 2011 and it will work at normal (for the SSD) speed?

It won't be as fast but yes you can boot from an external USB or FW connected drive.

I don't want to boot from a USB or FW connected drive I want to boot from a 240GB SSD in a thunderbolt caddy

Most SSD's now are twice as fast as the ones Apple charge £480 for so this way I get better performance and I save money

Well the thunderbolt caddy might be more expensive...

£63 for a Seagate one, only available in USA atm though.

OP: Have a look at the Macrumors forums in the Mac Mini section.... One of the guys has done just what you want by using that Seagate adaptor. Pretty decent results as well.

Gonna do the same thing myself, as I'm very hesitant to open the 27" iMac to put a SSD inside!
