Booting issue

Windows 11
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
ASUS Pro WS X299 SAGE II (LGA 2066 R4)
BIOS Up to Date

Every time I reboot my PC it posts but Windows does not load.
(Actually, that's not true. I think Windows is loading but the monitor and keyboard close down)

My workaround is to shut down and reboot.
Generally on the 2nd attempt windows loads.
MB states Code AA

I feel it is a GPU issue, but I cannot say for sure.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Had this same issue and BIOS battery was replaced - problem solved.

When you say the Bios Battery, do you mean the CMOS Motherboard Battery as indicated on the MB diagram?

I can't see anything in the manual I dld from Asus :/

But let's start at the beginning with the simple stuff.

#workbrainactivate

What storage do you have?
What psu are you rocking?
Have you tried using the primary video out port on your gpu? You might need to try each one.
Does your cpu have an igpu? Remove your gpu and try that.
Try a different vid cable.
Reset the bios to defaults and see if that changes anything.

Operating System Windows 11 Pro for Workstations 64-bit

CPU Intel Core i9 10980XE

RAM 128GB DDR4 @ 1064MHz (15-15-15-36)

Motherboard ASUS Pro WS X299 SAGE II (LGA 2066 R4)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 (Gigabyte)

Storage "Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB" "Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB" "Samsung SSD 970 PRO 1TB" "Samsung SSD 980 PRO 1TB"

PSU Corsair AXi Series AX1600i

What storage do you have? See above

you may need to disable CSM in the bios, with a older board and a modern gpu with a uefi bios there is a potential conflict between the 2, there is a problem with disabling CSM and it has to do with your drive the OS is installed to, if your partition is formated to MBR then you wont be able to boot if CSM is disabled, you will have to convert/re-install windows making sure the drive is setup as GPT, then you can disable CSM.

its all to do with rebar support on 30 series and up when used in older boards with CSM enabled and windows 11.

you can try disabling it and see what happens but if your pc goes to bios instead of booting your drive is setup as MBR, try to convert to GPT or re-install then disable CSM in the bios.

Thanks for the suggestion. The CSM is already disabled. So no joy.

How many EATX12V are plugged in? If only one, try with the second as well.

Just below the CMOS battery there are some POST state LEDs, are any lit?

All power cables pushed in properly?

When the computer posts but the monitor is black with no signal the last ASUS code I got was 97.

When the computer loads with W11 and all is good I get the ASUS code AA, however, it can also load with code AA and the monitor is still black which makes me feel that W11 has loaded, but there is an error with the card hence the black screen.
I'm Just guessing.

What about the POST State LEDS?

Indicated in the green box, not the red.

POST State LEDS.

Wow, I love this forum. I have never noticed the sequencing before.

I start the computer from cold in the morning.

The Post state is as follows.

Red/Yellow flashing 3 times. Then white (Constant. Stays white). Then the Post bleep, stays white with no signal to the monitor. Code 97

I reboot.

Red/Yellow flashing 3 times. Then white (Constant. Stays white). Then the Post bleep. Then it changes to Green for some time then nothing and Windows loads. Code AA

White = VGA Problem.

Try your GPU in another slot.

Not sure (on your motherboard) how or if you can change PCI-e to gen3 instead of auto. Thinking maybe it is detecting wrong on cold boot.

Thanks for all the posts so far.

freddie64 was right. I changed the PCI-e to gen3 from auto and now the computer boots as expected, however, this seems to have caused a new issue. Now Windows only detects 1 monitor. I have 2. Any thoughts?
