Hi, my D drive is in its death-throws*, E died a few weeks back.

I disconnected it today and discovered that my bootmgr files are not on my C drive and my pc cannot start without it. Does anyone know what this problem is called so I can correctly search google for a fix, or of a fix for it.

I know why it happened. My SSD is mounted to a pcie Sata 3 card, and is listed as hdd2 on the pc. Although of course the real cause is installing windows while other drives are connected.

Can anyone help, before I am unable to boot at all?

*no data can be accessed without BSOD

Notes:

C is an SSD, D and E both mechanical (1tb WD and 3 TB SG).

EDIT: Hoping I can fix this with the windows disk.

Thanks for that. My brain is on overload, I will have to review that later, I just lost one tb of data only a month after loosing two.

My problem is AFAIK, bootmgr file on D, C wont boot when D is disconnected.

(money constraints limited my back up total file size)

EDIT:

Looks like I may need some help, disk manager is not corroborating my observations. http://i.imgur.com/FnVmc8y.png

E and K we only connected within the last 3 weeks, D and C are as old as the last install of windows onto C.

Mark partition as active, from the link, is only an option for C and D, the other drives it is greyed out. Ok, got a huge headache atm, will try this out when I get confidence, might not be today, but that link has been quite helpful, seems in my fervour to find any answer to my specific problem I overlooked the generally advice available.

Im going to dig out my pc from 2004-2007. Might take a while to find it etc, so I dont have to print everything out, other than pcs i do not have internet access on any other devices, will post how it went eventually (has to be fixed by uni ^^).

EDIT:

I am aware that no matter wht happens I can still format.
