boots but screen is blank

Hi my laptop boots but the screen is blank apart from the mouse sensor
even when I boot into safe mode the screen is still blank
even the Microsoft logo at the bottom where it strolls along its visible but after that there is nothing can anyone help me please

Have you recently installed a new graphics driver/chipset driver/piece of software?

Try booting with Last Known Good Configuration and see if that helps...

no I have done nothing like that, with the Windows CD
I can get to the screen as though you were going to install windows again
reboot and I still have a blank screen, but the mouse pointer is visible

Mate of mine got an HP laptop... and its doing the same thing..
