I love coffee, I love Kahlua. I dislike paying 22 a litre for a bottle.

Have been making my own Kahlua substitute for some time. It's simple and tastes great. The key is good ingredients. Don't use cheap vodka or cheap coffee! Here's my recipe makes approx 2.5l

750ml vodka. I use stoli
8 cups brewed coffee
16tbsp coarse ground coffee beans
500g brown soft sugar
4tbsp vanilla extract

1. Brew your coffee. I use a French press
2. Disolve sugar in coffee
3. Wait until cool. Add vodka and vanilla.
4. Filter and bottle
5. Enjoy over ice, in a white Russian or an espresso martini

Sounds good. Interesting about the 'don't use cheap vodka' comment though. My wife bought me Grey Goose and I could barely tell the different between it and Red Square cheapy Tesco stuff. With other drinks I can, like whisky, but with vodka I'm yet to be convinced as to the difference.

Even straight no ice? Admittedly there is little difference but nice vodka I have found is less harsh.:)

I drank the whole bottle as nature intended, no contaminants. Really struggled to identify one as a 35 pound bottle and the other as a 10 pound one.

Really? It's easy to tell the different between Red Square and pretty much anything that isn't red Square... That stuff is awful.

sounds like it's worth a try.

I'm the same with vodka, but can tell difference with whiskies. Used to have a band mate who was a "vodka Snob".

Can I swap your grey goose for some glenns?
I'm sure over a certain price point you pay for the marketing and idea it's worth a lot more. Imo you can taste the difference between basics and a reasonable premium like stoli or absolut.

Got to do the vodka taste tests. Blind, slap them out and see if you can tell the difference. I think in some, you'd easily do it, others prob not so much!

Cheap vodka to me tastes too chemically!
