Morning all. I pre-ordered BL2 and played a little bit of it when it first came out, but work got very busy so I essentially abandoned the game until the last couple of days, when I've just tried to get back into it with little success.
Way back, playing Borderlands 1, I was pretty much hooked from the into movie, every new area bringing more interesting enemies to slay, and most importantly, interesting and upgraded loot to rifle through.

I'm now level 12 in BL2, I've been playing for eleven hours. So far I'm using a revolver that I found at level 10 which has a level 7 requirement, I've hardly found anything else worth using. Even at level 12, level 10 "quests" are sometimes still gruellingly difficult.
How much more "grind" do I have to put in before the game gets fun like the original Borderlands?

Not played 2, but borderlands1 didn't do much for me. Only put about 4 hours in but, despite really liking the art style and characters, I just didn't enjoy actually playung it.

And what's supposed the fun thing about "loot"? Isn't it just tedious rifling through loads and loads of junk? I'm probably missing something :)

In borderlands 1, with every new "Big Guy" defeated or every new gun-chest discovered, there's a massive sense of anticipation, "Ooooh, what are we going to get this time!?!?" which was oft. rewarded with a nice new gun.

The colour coding system meant that it only took a little bit of time to sift through the looted guns and see which were worth keeping and which were worth selling.

BL2 also has "colour rarity" but it's almost entirely meaningless, as 99.9999999% of the guns you find are white, the most basic colour, and the green/purple guns seem to be near-identical.

If you're getting beaten by level 10 quests when you're level 12, and the only gun you're using is a revolver, then I think you're messing up your weaponry choices.

You're using the word "choices" where I don't have much of a choice. I've just played about an hour and a half of Borderlands 1, I'm level 8 and I've already found a bundle of nice little guns that suit my character, I've not been forced to use a revolver because it's the best weapon I've found in eleven hours.

11 hours of play and only level 12? Have you left the snow area yet? Try opening boxes, so many weapons lying around, some great early level items given by quests - a lack of weapons is defiantly a criticism that's unfounded.

Utter load of trash in this thread, if you just don't like the game then why bother commenting?

I really enjoyed both 1 and 2, but would consider them potentially a bit dull single player - however co-op wise it's one of the best games around (if you like fps that is) the script is great, a lot of hours worth of playtime, a lot of side quests, great humour - the best priced/content dlc I can recall in years

I've played BL1, I know the score. I open EVERY box I can find. Weapons drops are few and far between, and good weapons fewer still.
As for why people "bother commenting if they don't like the game", given the nature of my question in the opening post, I think their input is entirely relevant, moreso than yours, given your preposterous claims that the loot "criticisms are unfounded"

<edit>
Sorry, Steam said 11 hours, Borderlands2 says 10;

Sometimes.... that happens, and you just end up with unlucky weapon finds.

Have you tried using the 2 one-armed bandits in Moxxi's bar? I often find some of my best 'standard' weaponry comes from them. Yeah it's a tad repetitive, but you sometimes get some Eridium in the drops as well.

Also, get some Golden Keys, if you haven't already - and open the chest in Sanctuary a couple of times.

This link will be your friend:

What character are you playing as? I found some of the characters to be much less 'fun' than others. But as said, it is better with friends doing co-op, rescuing each other, watching people do completely retarded things and laughing at them... :D

I'm gathering that the golden keys are the tickets to success here, I've harvested many of the key-codes from there and will spend some time churning out some decent weapons.

I've not tried the 1-armed bandits much as I've a limited supply of cash, much of which needs to be spent on ammo for some reason, despite it being cheap as chips I find myself buying it all the damn time.

On the story mission "Assassinate the Assassins" (level 8 difficulty), I was level 10 when I started and level 12 when I finished. I died about nine or ten times and had to run back to the vendor at the start of the area about thirty times.

I only have one friend who has Borderlands 2, and they've only played about ten hours as well, but I plan on playing co-op with them when I can, I hope it will help.

Thanks for the advice and recommendations. I spent the last three hours playing with my friend as I mentioned above and the teamwork element made the whole experience significantly more enjoyable.

I stand by my statement that the loot system is shocking though. In the three hours I went up three levels, we found a good number of guns (probably about fifty or sixty), but without exception they were all worse than what we were already carrying.

I will attempt to resist the temptation to save-edit, I remember how fun that was in endgame BL1 though, so it's difficult to resist :D
