Borders when running PS2 Games on PS3

Hi,

Just wondered what other people's experiences are of the above.

I only have 3 PS2 games to test. I started this God of War just now and graphically it looks really good on the PS2 but the borders are annoying me.

I have a HDTV with native res of 1366*768. PS3 is set to 720P. PS3 games use the full screen. Currently the TV shows it is running in 720*576 in 50hz when I play this game. God of War has a thin border on top and bottom and a thicker one on left and right. Has anyone got a copy of this running on PS3 for comparison? I have set it to Widescreen in the games options.

Compared to Shadow of the Collosus, which I also have, this is much better graphically. However SotC has no vertical borders, but just some borders on the side. However that gave me the choice of running the game Progressively and a 60HZ option which may have made a difference.

I am annoyed with the BC, every game I've tried looks gash and all run at 720x576, what happened to the promised 720p/1080i backwards compatiblity?

In fairness God of War looks amazing (although I only have SotC, DMC3 and Auto modellista to compare to).

It looks better than I recall original PS2 games looking even when running on PS2 on a CRT.

I guess if the game is designed as a 4:3 game, then the PS3 will create it in a box in the middle, instead of stretching the picture a 576i/p picture across a 720p picture, however depending on your TV, you could use zoom to get a fuller picture, but would strech the 4:3 picture and make everything fat looking, though I'm not sure off the top of my head if you can change widescreen stuff like that for 720p, probably depends upon the TV.

same setup as you, here's a pic of mine on the PS3

Ah, exactly the same. It doesn't bother me too much, just wanted to make sure it was the same on other people's machines. It is entirely possible they are like this when played on an original PS2 on an LCD. Just needed a frame of reference really.

I want God of War 2 so bad :(

After playing this God of War for the first time I am shocked!! Amazing visuals and no loading times. It seems to seamlessly switch between game mode, cutscenes with in-game engine, rendered CGI. No loads in between the transitions or anything!! The gameplay is much better than I thought it would be and at times it feels like I'm playing a 360 game!

Zero loading times in a last gen game and silly loading times for most 360 and ps3 games I own (ps3 games worse out of the 2). Bizarre.

Edit: Wonder if I will complete this before the sequel comes out this Friday?

Its not that long probably around 8 hours of gameplay. You just need to hope you dont get stuck on it and you will easily finish it for Friday. Completed both myself and absolutely loved them.

I need to go back and finish the last mission in challenge of the titans, it was getting me so stressed that I had to give it up for a while, but I think I've had plenty of time to calm down :)
