Hi there,

Bored today, so I knocked up (a random girl) a website.

What do you think of the design?

Clicky!

Any suggestions on improvements on the layout or design?

Cheers

EDIT:

Ignore the useless content and my appalling grammar and English.

This is just what I think:

1) Too much padding to the left of the actual content (The Indie Generation)

2) It's not bad - but I don't like where the bottom of the banner meets the white content.

3) The pink navigation buttons in the top right aren't very clear - perhaps putting them on some semi-transparent background?

Besides those things, I think it looks quite good. :)

Cheers for the reply mate.

1) Its a liquid layout, 80% is the actual content. Maybe I could make it 90% or 95% and it would sort that out.

2)Thanks. Is it that you don't like the "drop shadow effect", or is it the poor implementation (which i think you are referring to), as its a bit "hard" at the moment, I will make it softer, so it fades properly.

3) I know what you mean, originally, I have the background image coming straight across and was under the text completely which made it un-readable. I tried to change that by taking out some of the "flowers" where the actual text is, but I agree with you, it hasn't really worked. I will try what you have said.

It's reminiscent of http://www.indierevolution.co.uk/ which is owned by OvertoneBliss on this very forum. The main content area is a bit sloppy at the moment, text alignment and mismatchedness, but when that's been ironed out it could go somewhere. :)

Nice site, too dark for my liking though, not many colours either.

Could you suggest any improvements, for the main content area?

nice site, like the look and layout to it.

Only real gripe is that the content and the right navigation/woman image just goes behind the content when you have a small screen.

Put a min-width on the content so that it doesnt always compress it, stops the links and picture of the woman ruining it then

I quite like it also. Agree with the menu on the right, not enough background to it to make it noticable ( if that makes sense )

I like the rest of it.

Are you talking about the woman going behind the right "navigation" bar or the actual main middle content.

EDIT: the woman is a body background picture, so will always slide across, maybe I will have to change that

If you are referring to the top right, I think I have fixed that now.

No problem. :)

Think the padding looks better on the latest version.

I wasn't really sure what I didn't like about the integration of the banner, but when you mentioned that you could soften it - I thought that might be have been it.

Massive improvement to the top right, by the way.

Thanks again for the reply.

I have just uploaded the "softened" version, so from the link above (after a refresh ) you'll see what I have done.

can you not put the woman in the same DIV as the navigation that way it wont go behind the main content, only the navigation?
You could get it to position absolute bottom right of that div

Definitely a lot better.

There's a clear seperation of header and content, in terms of site layout - yet they go very well together in a design aspect - I think the white flowers to the right coming down onto the white content background help this link up together well.

Think I have fixed the problem that you have said, problem is that I had to give the navigation div a min-height.

Will have a look at that now.

aye definitely looks nice on OSX FireFox on 24" :)

Gonna have to redesign my site again soon, getting bored of it already and I only redid it a few weeks ago!
