Well, I've had it with Fantasy style games for the moment... I've plaed D&D Online non-stop and 2moons non-stop and to be quite honest, I'm kind of bored of elves, magic, sword swinging and daemon invasions *sigh*

I played Mass Effect recently, for a change, and that was great. Is there no decent FPS-Style MMOs out there, or decent Sci-Fi style Shooter MMOs??

I was kind of looking forward to Fallen Earth to be honest, but reading through the recent thread left me feeling like it had a bit too much depth and not enough immediate gratifying combat to satisfy my need to blow $%"@ to kingdom come :D

Any ideas?

Anarchy Online is one of the older Sci-Fi MMOs, dont know how it holds up to todays standards but its free to play the ad supported vanilla game now.

Take a look at Fallen Earth - MMO with some-what impressive FPS aiming and 'active' melee combat.

Only level 11 at the moment but very impressed for a game I totally dismissed out of hand without any real investigation.

Some trials here

More of a diablo-esiqe FPS in a fallout style setting, but yea it's not a MMO.

This is why I intend to buy it when I've finished with Dragon Age. Far too many good concepts are ruined by ramming them into the mass-profit niche. If I want to play with little kids, I'd post on some very different forums.

I also wonder why there hasn't been a real non sci-fi/fantasy MMO, is it really too hard to think outside the box a little.

A good example would be warfare where we could create ranks which offer on battlefield possibilities. Part of the game would involve training to attain the next rank which would be in the form of battles and missions.

Perhaps Fallout 3 and Borderlands is like this already and i'm reinventing the wheel but couldn't they charge a monthly fee and expand this.

I would also increase the choices at start up to include 4 or possibly 5 factions rather than the current limited good or evil that we generally see in mmo's (eve is a good example of more diverse choices)

I think a futuristic setting would be great à la borderlands or even go back to medevil times but again mix in magic and you are back to near fantasy so perhaps future would be better in this case.

That's from the top of my head after 3 mins imagine what the creative geniuses could do ...

I have an utterly fantastic (I think so anyway :) ), idea for a non fantasy MMO. Its one which has knocked about in my head for years now. Got everything in my head for it, classes, professions, skills-based rather than level-based, how the pvp will work, how the pve will work, the map and locations, the events, the key npcs. Its a beaut of an idea. I'm amazed no-one has thought to do it before, maybe its because the setting its in isnt as popular as fantasy or sci-fi. All I need now is £20 million quid to develop it :D

Aside from starting to play Aion I'm pretty much in the same boat, all WoW'd and Lotro'd out. I'm personally looking forward to the new Star Wars MMO coming out : The Old Republic, 2010 - not sure of the date though.

Pitch the idea to some developers. You never know with new out the box ideas like that ;)

Planetside is still playable now it's down to one server worldwide so it's fairly busy always a good fight going on somewhere.

Wow, thanks for the replies guys :)

A few nice Ideas - Hellgate would have been cool, if that hadn't been cancelled.

Tabula Rasa did look awesome as well - until I found out that had been cancelled *sigh*

Planetside looks interesting, but the website trailers make it look like something out of the very early 1990s for graphics *more sighing*

Dragon Age Origins can *beep beep* for all I care.

As for the offer for a STO beta account - ermm, thanks but I dont think I'd have the cash lol!

Anarchy Online looks interesting, but again is very old...

I don't know....
