got an 04 megane 1.6 as my first car had it about 6 months and am bored or more to the point fed up/worried about its reliability just failed its first mot - brakes)
love the cars looks and gadgets - handsfree fob panoramic sunroof all luxuries etc but just want something different and maybe sportier.

budget- what i can get for megane or upto 6K was thinking jap/german (for reliablility)

No sportier than a Megane really is it.

Difficult to think of something decent, Sporty and Jap for about £6k that isn't a bit potent for a new driver :(
i was just thinking of something german lol.

If you don't need 4 seats than have a look at an MX-5.

Certainly won't bore you, and isn't stupidly powerful for a new driver although you still need to take it easy.

You could get a nice mk2 1.8iS for that money, of if you prefer the looks of the mk1 save some cash and still buy a lovely example.

Depends if you can live with it, but I found myself in the same situation being bored out of my mind by a 1.6 Focus. The mx-5 keeps me entertained every time I take it out.

Lots of other sports cars available for £6k, but most aren't suitable for new drivers.

Seems odd to be worried about reliability because a car failed it's MOT on a consumable. I'd be more worried that you waited 3 years to check them

In the 6 months Ive owned it it has been back to the dealers twice for a dephaser pulley fault and a leak. The pulley fault being the revs dying when started from cold.

Ive been looking on autotrader and there are some nice bmw on there for 6k although they are high mileage, I dont know why I put empasis on the sporty as I am not some wannabe boy racer. Also saw a few x type jags that look real nice but is it bad to buy a car based on looks alone

FTo
MR2 turbo
Prelude
Accord Type R
Integra Type R
Supra
RX7

All quite high insurance groups though, and may put a new driver into trouble.

(really can't type when wasted, so many edits)

Maybe you should just put up with your first car as all new drivers have to do then get a kick ass car when you're about 20 and possibly ahave about 10k to spenfd.

Maybe its just the way i tihnk but i'd much rather cruise around in a 1.6 04 megane for a while longer and then get a quality car for 10k than to buy a car sooner and only get a 6k car.
