Hows guild wars looking nowadays, i like the look of it but would it really be worth me starting to play it now seeing as number 2 is around the corner ?

LOTRO would be my bet. Although I love Guild Wars, I think it is much more difficult to get into it now, it's not the hive of activity it was a couple of years ago. You'd have to find an active guild to help you out. I think there is a GW starter pack for a couple of quids, with 20 hours / 14 days trial to get the hang of it.

American servers are also more populated, and still playable. Still, finding a good guild is key nowadays. Otherwise it's pretty hard to coop with randoms. I would start with Nightfall, Prophecies starts too slowly and you get to max level only 3/4 into the game. Plus, it's the more rounded campaign (although I quite like EOTN).

Hang around the gwguru maybe. The main gameplay mechanism in GW is the 8 skills restriction, which may feel a bit weird at first coming from WoW, but it's part of the challenge :)

I'm playing (occasionally) GWs and LOTR after my spare time got cut down enormously and I consequently couldn't justify paying the monthly subs for WOW. From my experience, the previous poster's remarks are pretty accurate.

Both are good games, but unless you like playing mainly Single Player, LOTR is far superior as the user base in GW is far lower than that of LOTR which has an active thriving community.

You can try LOTR for free until about level 32, when the FTP content runs out. If you want to continue, the best option is to buy one months subscription and the legendary version of Isenguard (the newest expansion). This would give you everything you need to get to level cap for about £40.

Check the LOTR thread for lots of info - the main OcUK guild is on Laurelin, but there are quite a few OcUKers on other realms too....
