Bored of your MX-5?

Heh, its a big circle (sort of :p). Westfield builds Lotus 7 replicas, Mazda build a Lotus Elan rip off, that gets taken to pieces and becomes a Lotus replica...
:D

According to Westfield, bodywork on older MX-5s is now decaying beyond repair so they are becoming scrap

Bit of a strange thing to say. I know a lot of owners who would argue that their cars are virtually rust free, let alone decayed beyond repair. Perhaps it would have been better to say "bodywork on some older MX-5s..."

thats a pretty cool idea :) would be interesting to drive one, wonder if its anything like the mx-5 it came from, guess its gotta be a totally different suspension setup though....

Meh. I've seen a much better idea for curing boredom:

MX-5 + V8 = Speed

A V8 engined MX-5 has to be a good thing.....kind of like a neo-Cobra with the whole "take lightweight sports car and add hoofing great engine" :D

i've seen a couple of thouse around, mainly using the lexus v8 as its pretty small and light. I'd me more tempted towards the FI options mainly due to their relative weight increase and effects on the ballance of the car

Agreed. FI MX5 = even more speed + more tuneablity and minimum weight distribution problems. Though you can't beat the sound of a V8 and in a small mx5 that would just be awesome.

Bah, V8 is huge, wonder why no-one has fitted an RX-7 twin turbo to an mx5 yet!

They have , I'll see if I can google it back up.............

Nice, wonder if the RX7 unit is lighter than the standard 1.8 lump + turbo.

Turbo conversion on the 1.8 is 3k + sure you could do an RX7 conversion for less?

I kind of wondered what donor car 7 kit makers would start to use rather than Sierra's, as it needed to be rear wheel drive. I'd never considered the MX-5, but it makes perfect sense.
