Not really, you can act as if you are stupid as Mr Johnson does but that doesn't automatically make him stupid. He is pretty bright by all accounts, I suspect he just puts on the act of being a buffoon as it a) deflects criticism and b) makes people underestimate him.

As for comedy value and making gaffes, I don't believe there has ever been a politician who has not made a gaffe or two, certainly not one who has remained in politics for longer than a week so the problem here would be that Boris Johnson's persona makes it easy for him to be blamed and difficult for him to keep his position even if he was no worse than any other politician in terms of making errors. I'm not saying one way or the other if he is or isn't as I don't have a clue (especially not how you'd quantify it) but he probably isn't that much worse.

I view the man as something like the Prince Phillip of politics, great for comedy value but probably a disaster for anything serious in diplomatic terms.

Reading that article I am conviced Boris could make a great PM - I can't believe he came out with
"On April 4 2000, from his electoral ship, he shared a joke about AIDS; A man with AIDS meets his doctor and asks him: "Doctor, what can I do for my illness?". The doctor answers: "Have a mud bath". "But doc, will that really do me any good?" "Not really, but you'll get used to being buried!".

One of those jokes I laugh at then feel really bad I did!

Thats not Boris thats Berlusconi.

Just saying thats the sort of thing we would probably get if Boris was PM.

My fault for confusing you. The point i'm making is Berlusconi is an example of a PM who might be similar to Boris, at least in terms of the joke scandals.
