Borked Ipod Video

I've got a 60Gb video Ipod that I use regularly in my car with an official Alpine Ipod kit. Yesterday while playing some tunes in the car the sound stopped like I'd pressed Pause. The Ipod display just said "Alpine, Ok to Disconnect" as it always does. The head unit however said, Checking Disc.

Unplugging the Ipod didn't help either, the display still says "Alpine, Ok to Disconnect". Connecting it to my PC didn't work either, Itunes didn't see it.

Any ideas how to "reset" it?

To reset an ipod
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

does resetting an ipod clear everything on it or jus restart it?

resets all settings, Music+videos will still be there
