My housemate has the Companion 3s and i love them. The bass sounds perfect for the music we both enjoy playing (deep house) so i am looking into purchasing the 5s.

Thoughts on alternatives or is this the way to go? Anyone have the 5s?

Space is very limited and i was looking into a HiFi system but it really isn't going to fit anywhere and will end up being pricier for what i need. :o

Many here and me included would not even rate Bose.

You could do far better, looking at price I would say Edifier for a start :

Edit : not longer do the 2.1 high end set here (was the S730/S730D).

Or go bookshelf but not sure if you want that or keep to PC 2.1's.

I don't rate Bose either. Personally, I don't they are terrible, just that they cost much more than they should for the sound quality you get. If you want 2.1 speakers, I would seriously consider the Corsair SP2500. More than £100 cheaper, and also better, according to this guy on another forum, who has had both.

'I had a pair of bose companion 5 and although they did sound good i never felt they sounded "300 quid good" (think i may have paid more). I have SP2500s with an Asus d2X now which is probably a 250 quid setup (defo sub £300) and they knock my companion 5s out the park. Im sure there is Bang Ofulsen kit out there that will knock spots off the sp2500 but you gotta part with you 1st born child to afford it. But for us mere mortals it comes down to "sound for your pound"'
