Hi, I need to buy a new set of headphones to replace my damaged Bose ones. I am thinking of going for the Sony WH-1000XM5? I used to have a few pairs of open-back Sennheiser before the Bose, but I enjoy the Bluetooth portability and Noise Cancelling. 99% of my listening now is on the PC so I am wondering what would compare to the Sony in sound quality, if I switched back to a corded set. Or what would you spend the £350 on?

Any suggestions are welcome :)

WH-1000XM5 owner here, I connect mine up with Bluetooth on the motherboard and I love it. People can hear me clearly over MS teams and I believe it even filters out mic noise, one time I had AC and fan on fall blast in a teams meeting and nobody could even hear it when I spoke, and the ANC is basically the best you will get outside of the Apple top of the line offering, and maybe Bose but I haven't really tried Bose, the battery is very impressive and it fast charges very quicky and last over a day even with ANC on. I was also a owner of a WH-1000XM4 and I personally prefer the XM5's the only thing it lacks is voice notification to let you know if your in noise cancelling or listening mode (Sony replaced it with some kind jingle which is somewhat strange change). To me the XM5's are more comfortable on my head also but the XM4 were very comfortable too.

Thanks for the comments on the MX5s I listened to both the Bose and XM4 and preferred the Sound on the Bose, although the ANC was probably a little better on the Sony. I picked the Bose and they have been faultless. Only annoyance is the lack of quick charging and USB-C. I will probably end up switching to Sony.

Just for context I've bought some HD599SE from Amazon £69.99 seemed like a very good deal and I got to try some open back headphones after a few years using ANC with the Bose.

Not impressed at all, maybe I'm used to ANC but I can hear other people and noise over the music I'm listening to and this spoils my enjoyment. This is the deal breaker for me so the Sony XM5 will be a nice upgrade.
