Has anyone heard one of these or infact own one?

I keep seeing adverts for them in a newspaper supplement I read and it looks like a pretty nifty device. The ads keep bleating about the awesome room filling sound.

But I did some research, they cost £600 and can play cd and dab radio. Thats it. They don't even offer full internet radio which is a bit tepid.

But they look really nice and hey maybe they have such basic features because they deliver in the audio aspect?

Anyone care to share your experiences with these gadgets. Thanks.

There's a BOSE store in Gunwharf, just a few steps from work, I can take a look if you like but the last time I was in there I left disappointed. Yes, the sound is room filling but it should be the way those speakers are designed.

The price though...for that kind of money I'd buy a separates system with dedicated speakers.

Unless space is an issue!

You can get them for less than that. Lack of features seems to be an issue. Having heard one, but never owned one, I can say that it sounds ok for its size but the Wave II I heard was a bit too bass heavy and had no tone control....

Haven't they been advertising these in Sunday supplements since the 90s? I assume its been updated a little, but I too have never seen one.

Yeah I'm not actually thinking of buying one, I was just curious what they're like because I keep seeing the ads in the back of the supplement and keep thinking about it.

BOSE always get slated by pro audio people. Hang around places like head-fi.org and they have nothing but hate for BOSE.

Apparently they make expensive crap, which people think is high-end because it's expensive.

This. Although I found a wave radio 2nd hand for £150 and my aunty wanted it. It actually sounds pretty decent and is quite small. Of the sounds docks available for the same size it does pretty well - but then it should based on the price

No, it cant fill a whole room with sound. Well, it could a small room I suppose. It hardly rocks out banging sound

BOSE do not sound bad.

What they are is that they are not value for money.

Agreed. Cambridge audio amp and bookshelf speakers. Job done :)

:eek::eek::eek:

A decent CA amp would go beyond the budget, anything middle end or lower would not be worth it because you can get better for the same money!

NAD/Marantz > CA :)

This is what my friend who works for Linn says.

from my experience with BOSE

over priced
too much bass
over priced
over priced

as said, you can do much better, you are paying for the name

With BOSE I find for those who want good sound straight out the box and not needing to faf on with seperates they just work.

My grandparents have a BOSE surround sound setup, headphones & the WAVE, all just sound right. Yes they are expensive but for something you can just unpack, plug in and turn on I think they sound really good.

Yes you may be paying for the name but isnt that the same with a lot of things? (Apple for example?) my grandparents have never had any issues and are very pleased with the products.

To answer the question OP, as long as your room isnt the Royal Alberrt Hall or the O2 arena you shouldnt have trouble filling a room with sound!
