Both Cores Working Properly ?

Hi ,
I have the X2 3800+ @ 2.5Ghz and i was wondering if both cores are working properly.
I took this screenshot while i was running the following programs in the background : - Call Of Duty 2, nVidia Firewall, McAfee Anti-Virus, DAP, Sound effects program and nVidia settings icon

I am right to say that the 1st core (on left) is running Call Of Duty 2, and the 2nd core (on right) is running the other small programs ?
Can you tell if both my cores are working correctly ?

it's not really possible to say from that screenie.

your best bet is to download prime95, install two instances into seperate folders, and run one of each.

that'll push both cores real hard and then just let it run for 8-10 hours.

if there's any problem with your CPU this method will have a much better chance of finding out for you than what you tried there.


though if it passes that test, you might wanna try other things, a single prime95 and some heavy game playing simultaneous. and try it both ways round by setting the affinity of each program and then swapping the affinity over for a rerun of the test.


this sort of thing should give you an indicator as to if your gear is running right.

note, it still wont be definitive, but then it rarely ever is, all you get is increased confidence the longer it can run without error when pushed hard.

Yes, i think they are working okay, prime95 and CoD1 ran simultaneously no problems

windows will balance the load automatically, you can set programs to run on one core but to be honest I don't think it's worth it as windows does a relatively good job of balancing it.

quick thing tho, get rid of the nVidia firewall, it's horrible lol
