So I have a 6700k at the moment running with a Titan X and 2x8GB DDR4

Bottleneck calculator puts this as a good combo at 3%

I was thinking about upgrading my board and CPU and going for an 8700k. This is what I got from the bottleneck calculator:

Bottleneck detected: Your GPU is too weak for this processor.

Intel Core i7-8700K @ 3.70GHz
with GeForce GTX TITAN X (x1) will produce 16% of bottleneck. Everything over 10% is considered as bottleneck. We recommend you to replace GeForce GTX TITAN X with GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.

How is a Titan X too "weak" for working with an 8700k?

Struggling to understand and don't really want to change the GPU as I am then looking at basically a full system upgrade which is pretty much unneeded.

Thanks

A bottleneck is always present, there will always be a limiting factor in performance. If you actually need to upgrade your CPU for some reason then I wouldn't worry about the above "bottleneck" for a second.

The phrase bottleneck is often a misnomer anyway. Ignore it. What people mean most times they talk about bottlenecks is the slowest bit in a generic unspecified workload. Which isn't the same thing as a bottleneck :/

The calculator sounds like one of the dumbest tools I've heard about in a while.

Intel Core i7-5930K @ 3.50GHz
with GeForce GTX 1080ti (x2) will produce 12% of bottleneck. Everything over 10% is considered as bottleneck. We recommend you to replace Intel Core i7-5930K @ 3.50GHz with AMD Ryzen 5 1600X.

:P

Exactly. There is always a "weak link". The only time a bottleneck needs resolving is when it has a real world effect on performance.

Bottleneck calculator sounds like the stupidest thing ever. It's even more stupid that it assigns a percentage to it.

sounds like an interesting tool if you use it correctly.

ie, you are getting slowdown in a particular game, you plug your system details in to it and it tells you which bit needs upgrading (or something like that :p )
