looking for advice.

About to buy a 7850 HIS HD iceq
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-052-HS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=411

As a upgrade for my 4870, hopefully a good upgrade...

Im just wondering though my current CPU e8400 will bottleneck, but should i not worry too much and just got for it.

PS. heard that the 7950 is on a a great sale price, but is it worth a extra £60 given my CPU bottleneck i might encounter ??

Just need some quick advice as buying today. thanks.

Depends what your e8400 is clocked at I would guess. I remember those things used to reach anywhere between 3.6 and 4. (If it's mentioned in your sig I can't see, I turned sigs off :p)

I wouldn't imagine you'd suffer from bottlenecks at that kind of range on an E8400.

You may as well still go for the best card that is within your budget. Yes, your e8400 may bottleneck (really hate this term) your card for now but assuming you're upgrading your CPU down the line then you'l eventually get full benefit for your card. Unless you plan on just replacing your entire system.

E8400 watercooled in a P5E!! Get it clocked or ban!! :D:p:D

I had a E8500 in a P5E that was run at 4.5Ghz on a daily basis. That is a cracking board for clocking.

I finally pulled the trigger on a 7970 Matrix this morning, it's going to be bottlenecked "big time styley" by my C2Q9300 @ 3GHz, but it will be one hell of an upgrade over my 8800GTS 512 and it will show further gains when I decide on a new Intel/AMD system (with a tight budget and the hope of longivity... making me tempted to try an 8-core AMD).

ordered the 7850 in the end,

Couple of things though.

1: Havent overclocked pc as never really overclocked properly before and worried about damaging it, (long term) given pc lasted a good 4 years without many issues im quite impressed lol.

2: upgrading CPU would be great BUT would require a LOT of money, given id need to replace the motherboard and ofc my watercooling stuff so it fits the newer motherboards/cpus :(

if it was a simple change cpu then id do that within secs lol.

thanks for advice though, atm it just a 7950 upgrade so plz dont hate me ;)
ps i really need to post some pics of my system so that you guys can see how lovely it looks and how i'm completely not using it to its full potential haha
