Bottlenecking 7950? - New CPU?

Hi guys and gals

I am wondering if my new graphics card - ASUS HD 7950 TOP - is bottlenecking because my CPU - AMD Phenom X4 965 BE - is getting a bit old.

Sometimes the mouse cursor seems to jump across the screen as oppose to a smooth scroll.

Battlefield 3 plays great, but do I still need a new CPU?

Oh yeah, the CPU is overclocked, but only to 3.8GHz at the moment. I could try to go higher.

What about the 8350 CPU?

dont have a lot of experience with AMD cpu's so I cant comment on a newer suitable replacement but I would say that your current 965 BE would bottleneck in certain situations yes.

Take note of what your specifically doing at the time together with a note of your processor usage when the mouse gets jumpy from task manager and see if its at 100%, i suspect it probably is. Then you just have to work out whether its related so something you are asking the machine to do or whether its background related which could probably be quite simply fixed.

BF3 64MP is pretty CPU intensive so if the CPU isn't up to the task it will bottleneck yes.

I'll let someone more knowledgeable on AMD CPUs answer whether your CPU specifically is a problem.
