my system is
Windows vista 64-bit
Q6600 (2.5 GHz)
4GB RAM 800 MHz
Gigabyte 5870 Dx11 (900 MHz memory clock the £309 one from this site)
now I get great performance but still not as good as benchmarks would lead me to believe I was thinking that a CPU upgrade eg i7s but was not sure if i had sufficient memory (RAM) for the card. Also when will Dx11 become a standard in games? as it sounds great.

Ya I think the CPU is the bottleneck. I should think you have more than enough ram but that depends on what games your running and what texture level I guess. DX11 is already looks like it's taking off. There are a handful already in development and looks like it has a lot of feature like hardware tessellation that many games would greatly benefit from if developed with DX11 in mind.

Windows 7 looks to be extremely popular and hopefully more people will be DX11 capable because of it.

im no expert but im very sure that your cpu is limiting the 5870 quite a bit
id say you should put a good fan on the cpu and overcloch it to say 3.4/3.6 and you will notice a bigish difference

You're probably comparing benchmark scores with users using I7 chips. Their score will be significantly higher due to the 'more advanced' cpu.

I'd overclock your 6600 and not worry about it. Its not as if its holding you back in games.. surely?

As already said, get that q6600 to 3ghz at least. Also the reviews use i7 so you can't compare. Even my 4.6Ghz q9650 doesn't perform as well as the i7 does in Vantage.

this is the problem my mobo or CPU cant tell which can oc past 2.5 just crashes not a cooling issue. Also for dx11 cards is it worth getting windows 7 does it run things more efficently?

Has it not been shown on quite a few sites that graphics cards are stating to get bottlenecked by processors, especially at lower resolutions? Custompc/bit-tech and tomshardware definatly have something to that effect.
