Hi,

I've just ordered 'GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency Dual Channel (GX22GB6400UDC)' thinking I already had 2Gb of the same stuff.

It turns out that my current memory is 2x1GB GeIL DDR2 PC2-5300 @ 333 Mhz

I can only assume OC sent me the incorrect memory the first time (~5 years ago) since my order history states 'GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC)' and I've never bought RAM from anywhere else, however the stickers on the memory and on the box definitely say its PCR-5300 @ 333Mhz... oh well, not much I can do now though.

Anyway, I was wondering what my options were?

Should i plug in the faster memory and leave my old stuff in there? will everything clock down to 333 Mhz?

Or would it be better to remove my old memory and just add my 2gb of new stuff?

Or would i not really notice any difference either way and should just send my new RAM back for a refund?

Rest of my system is:
750W antec PSU
Q6600 @ 3.0 Ghz
Nvidia GTX 480 SOC
Asus P5k deluxe

Thanks a lot

I would but the slower ram into the first slots and the mobo should jsut run it all at the slower speed...

I doubt you would see any performance difference..

As the edscdk suggests, no need to return anything, you can use both sets, but you'll have to bring them down to the speed of the slowest set.

Bear in mind that both are DDR2, and where it says 333MHz the typical labelling would be 667, so it's not as big a step down as you think :)
