Bought a 360, struggling with fps

fail argument, in real life can you get shot 4 times and survive whilst still holding a gun and firing bullets with minimal recoil or body effect?? hmmmm NO.

keyboard and mouse offers a massive degee of control that a pad cant deliver...if you cant see that then your a muppet.

not saying pads are pad at all, they serve a casual purpose and nothing more.

Actually... theres been people shot a lot more than 4 times in real life and survived and still shooting back.

I still don't know why anyone would willingly play an fps game without keyboard and mouse tho.

because you can't use a keyboard and mouse sat on your couch laid back in the front room ?

You have to pull a coffee table up to rest the mouse on or similar, and then sit up properly on the edge of the couch to use it.

With a joypad, you can just kick back and relax, put your headset on, get a couple of mates on and have a blast.

We have regular xbox live nights about 2 x a week at work. Much more fun when you're in a party like that.

Just look at the sarcasm dripping from the post you quoted; I'm quite certain they were kidding. No human can pirouette as quickly in reality as can be done with even a medium range mouse sensitivity setting in Q3A, although this doesn't accurately address the limited turn rate present with console titles and the XIM. However, you can play quite comfortably with a mouse while sitting back on a couch. It doesn't require much thought to put together a desk that has leg supports designed to slide under or around the base of the sofa, and pre-constructed options exist for those fearful of gluing together a few pieces of PVC pipe.

If you've never used a controller before it will be tough, you basically have to train yourself to use it, it's not really intuitive like a mouse would be. Personally I find inverted Y-axis to be more natural on controllers. Helped me get used to it at the beginning.

I'm back playing on PC now though after having nearly a 5 yr break from it, and keyboard/mouse is no trouble to pick up again. : )

Not true. I use a wireless keyboard (resting on my lap) and mouse (resting on its mat just to my right) while slouching/lying on a bed almost three metres away from my 37" Hdtv. I would assume this would be no different than slouching with your feet up on a couch. I also use pads when on one of my consoles and have never had a problem with either method. Let's please not turn this into yet another Console Vs Pc thread.

Took me awhile to get used to it after PC gaming for many years. Now it's pretty intuitive. Like anything it's just time and practice.

Most people simply don't have an arm on their sofa suitable for resting a mouse pad on.

For those users a pad is going to be more comfortable. Thats why people use it.

Provide evidence that you have ever played a competitive game on the xbox and been casually laid back. I have notice that as the game goes on people get closer and closer to the screen till the point where they can't see over each other, particularly in uni.

I was having this exact conversation over xblive with a pal yesterday,im an avid pc gamer thats trying to get into xbox gaming

i was saying to him that playing xbox on my sofa is "ment" to be more comfy than playing pc at my desk BUT even tho i have a 50" screen i was leaning that far forward as i played that i was getting neck and back ache

so in my case at least ,sitting at my desk with my high back office chair playing xbox/pc is more comfy than "relaxing" on my leather sofa

i do it all the time ?

And plenty of other people must do it too. Theres got to be a reason you'd chose an inferior control method ! :p

I wasnt suggesting that. Whats wrong with resting the mouse and its mat next to you like I do? Works for me and extremely comfortable, just like using a pad. And as I said before, I use both a pad and a mouse and keyboard depending on what system and game I'm playing and have found neither one to be superior over the other for the reasons I gave in my original post.

As for the learning forward, its the opposite for me. The longer the game goes on for, the more I slouch back and relax.

Once again this topic was originally started as the guy wanted some help and advice to see if other users had experienced difficulty in adjusting to a pad coming from a mouse and keyboard setup. It was clearly not started with the intention of becoming yet another PC elite vs Console fanboy infested thread that the internet is bloody full of these days.

Tip for adjusting: Console FPS and the like are full of little adjustments to make your aim better. The biggest challenge for me with pads was getting used to partially aiming - the games will take care of the rest for you.

When I started playing games years ago,it was always consoles, then onto PC,some games are just not console games.I have Orange Box for the 360 and PC.I can't play it at all on XBox.FPS PC,Gears, Crackdown,Just Cause the XBox.If there is a Keyboard and Mouse for the 360 even for 160 quid I am in.

Always played fps on pc, but decided to get a 360 and black ops

not being funny but god damn the controller sucks :(

hoping i could master it but it just seems fundamentally flawed for fps compaired to a kb&m

do you think i will be able to actually master this, as i seriously struggle just walking around never mind aiming and shooting, is it just a case of practising ?

driving games are cool as, but fps god no

any help gladly accepted

I swore I'd never get used to a controller when I moved from PC gaming but now I prefer it.

Get COD2. Stick it on Veteran and finish it. By the end you WILL have mastered it. Seriously, this is what I and several others I recommended it too have done.
