well posted on here a few weeks ago about wanting something a bit different and a bit sporty.

had a fe really good suggestions put forward for between 2-3k which was my initial budget.

anyway due to other circumstances the budget dropped dramamtically and so did my wish of something sporty and different.

Wen car hunting at the weekend in need fo a car and ended up with

Rover 420 SI
S Reg
42k on clock
Full service history (5 services within that time technically only needed 3)
immacualte inside and out
T16 Engine

possibly paid a tad more than i would have liked as bought from garage but paid £900 all in.

havent managed to have too much of a drive in it yet due to standing at the parents for the week while my father services it and does the cam belt / gear oil etc etc.

vut what driving i have done seems very comfortable decent speed and not too bad MPG so all in very happy.

so know rip it to shreds :p

Good job! :) I've never driven a 400 series with a turbo. I wonder how it compares to the 800 Turbo i've driven (my sister's 800 Vitesse Sport)?
Sounds alright at that price, I should think that's about it's whack, £900.
Nice buy anyhow. :D

tb2000 - It'll be a NA (naturally aspirated, not turbocharged) T16 unless its a very late registration, but if fettling is your thing then the turbo lump wont pose much of a problem dropping in if you know what your doing ;) Essentially the underpinnings of a ZS, so if you were to sort a few aftermarket treats suspension wise it'll handle rather well too.

£900 though - good buy. :D

They never made a turbo'd 400/45 (apart from diseasals).

I own one of these too, but mine comes with a Honda badge and a better engine ;)

Is it a turbo?

I remember seeing one of these at a dragstrip....cant remember the name, its in straford, or staffordshire....my memory is terrible! This rover 620 turbo was running sub 15 quarter miles.

EDIT: sorry, misread, I thought you said 620, not 420. Still, it was fast!

This might be the one i'm getting it confused with as I could've sworn I've seen a feww turbo'd 420's. Unless as Fevvahz says they were ones where people had dropped a turbo lump in themselves. :)

Sounds like a good buy for £900 from a dealer! :)

was £1250 but knocked him down a fair way. mind going down £350 was a worry but had a decet mechanic with me and we spent 1.5hours going over the car before parting with the cash.

They didn't do a turbo in that shape.

ahh ok mate thats probably where my confusion lies then just checked on parkers and by the looks of it yer correct the 95-00 series rover 400 did not have a tubo versionother than the diesel as dogbreath also pointed out.

my mistake.

More and more people are buying Rovers now :p

good buy :)

Trying to tell people something? ;)

6 months ago, you'd pay upwards of a grand for an S reg 420 GSi. It's amazing how much they've dropped in price recently.

I do like the GSi's. Loads of kit (full leather/air-con/ABS etc). Great buy for the money :)

Why buy a Rover though? everyone doesnt like them for a reason you know ;) úber unreliable and you will be knee deep in old head gaskets soon :D

Why buy a Rover when you wanted something sporty? you could have got something sporty for £900.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to prove you wrong there Lee ;)

The 420 is the T-series. Same engine in my new car. A bullet proof, decent performing engine. It doesn't eat headgaskets and is very reliable.

The T-Series engine could be the best in the world but as its in a Rover its always going to be branded a headgasket eater.
