Hi all, i needed to get a usb hub for my imac as i always have 3 or 4 usb devices plugged in and was tired of chopping and changing and fiddling around the back of the computer. So i got a cheapo 7 port one on ebay.

However, i've noticed that it seemingly isn't very powerful. My iphone seems to charge much more slowly than if it were plugged directly into the computer and data transfer to usb sticks is slower as well. Is this just an unavoidable drawback of using a hub or is there a better one that i could get?

the one i got (from the bay) is a "Premium 7 Ports USB 2.0 HUB Adapter Cable"...

thanks!

Is it a powered device?

I have a Belkin USB2 7 port powered hub, it's fantastic. It has 5 on the rear and two on the top, handy for pen drives etc. Belkin model number is F5U237QEA

no it's just powered by plugging into the mac. It doesn't have a separate power supply if that's what you mean? It does have an on/off switch though.
