FFS people, I know you don't like it, but some insurance company's (read, everyone single one I have asked, including elephant, NU, Bell and Direct Line) have all said being a named driver is fine even if you are the main driver.

OK, even if they do say it's OK... I bet they'll still try to wrangle out of it if you need to claim. You'll say "but you said it was OK", they'll say "did you get that in writing?"... Insurance companies will try any way they can to get out of paying out, so handing them a reason on a plate seems a little silly to me.

Anyway, I'd advise anyone to start their own policy ASAP. Alright, I forked out for insurance for the first year or two, but come the time I was 20, beginning my 4th year of driving, I paid not a great deal more than £500 to insure a group 14, 136bhp car - £100 worth of european use and breakdown cover included in that £500. A friend of mine bought an almost identical car (8 fewer valves) and was paying more than three times that amount for his insurance - as he had 0 NCB, having just come off his mother's policy.

If you add all the years up, it saved me almost £1000 in the long run going on my own to begin with - even if I did pay over £1500 to insure a cruddy 1.1 Fiesta 3rd party in my first year.

My first cars policy was 1300fc and I had to pay it. Just get it out of the way instead of hiding on a policy cus its cheaper. If you cant afford the insurance you cant realistically afford to run it and fix when it goes wrong.

Does this whole named driver insurance argument that comes up in almost every single 'my first car' thread not bore you lot yet?

Enjoy your new car, mate.

I'd give you some advice, but you're no more likely to listen to it than I was in the same situation :D

Ill believe it when i see it, until that point I think anyone who talks absolute rubbish about it being insurance fraud etc etc are doing it to make themselves feel good and try and belittle other people, for I have never seen any evidence other than the people of OcUK motors crying there eyes out about it.

I completely agree, but when kids are being asked for £2k for insurance sometimes its just retarded.

If you cant afford the insurance you cant realistically afford to run it and fix when it goes wrong.

Rubbish, a £3k care with which he'd have to pay almost that to insure is never guna realistically need anywhere near £500 "just incase money" unless hes bought a dog of a car. Not every car comes under the rule "if you cant afford to buy 2 you cant afford to run 1", hell, hardly any cars come anywhere near that saying.

A female friend of mine has a corsa, dti thing. So far has needed a new power steering pump, several sessions on the fault code reader and a load of vac hoses replacing. Its not even particularly old, funny that

Oh yeah, those 1.2 Corsa's are certainly quick alright.

I saw one pwning an Evo the other week. Awesome stuff

Well that makes two of us, though the evo had no driver in it and was parked up, does that count :p

12.0 according to Parkers.

It does indeed 12.0 days....

Back to the main point, well done for saving up and buying it outright, good on you for that.

I could bang on about the insurance situation, it is our business at the end of the day cause you drive on the same road as me, but i won't.

Enjoy the car, first ones are always special even if 9 times out of 10 they totally suck

Whats wrong with a 0-60 of 12.0 seconds? There's same sized cars with bigger engines out there that can't even pull this off. And much larger cars also.

Hahaha, I want whatever you are smoking agw :D

I earn £450 a month whilst still being a full time student, £150 goes on the insurance. I'm living happily and never have to go cap in hand to my parents.

Corsa SXi's body roll like mad and the Corsa's SRI's were hardly rapid and didn't handle aswell as it's main competitors, the Fiesta Zetec-S and Saxo VTS.

It's a nice looking car but what happens when the insurance discover your mum has another car when you go to claim?

well my mum doesnt even have another car in her name

Weel done m8

Nice car, not a bad price either being honest.

The engine is fine, its not too slow at all, it pulls fine. My ex had one and i found it was a nice car... the engine was fine.

All good :)

Iv even had it friggin recommended to me over the phone by 2 company's when iv phoned for insurance. Can we get off high horses here and actually use facts instead of theoretical BS when it comes to this argument. I know there are some elitist morons on this forum who like to belittle new drivers who cant afford the ridiculous premiums, but your simply talking rubbish and tbh its made a few respected motors members seem quite stupid at some points.

Quoted for the truth. Bored of the morons who bleat insurance fraud every time this comes up.

Nice first car :)

Had one as a hire car not so long ago, and while I didn't particularly like it to drive it was hardly 'dangerously slow'.
