Well I bought a POV 280 GTX on Friday. I talked myself into the upgrade but now I have it, I'm not sure I want it after all. I did a few tests in games I played and it didn't look much different having all the options on from my 8800GT of before.

Can I return it to OCUK for a full refund or should I just sell it on?

Cheers

Wondering what res you run games in?

22" TFT - 1680x1050. I think I'll return it then.

I want something that is middle of the range performance and low power draw. I might stick with the 8800GT until that card arrives.

middle of the range and you go for a GTX280? quite frankly you won't find anything that suits your bill that won't be a step down from your 8800GT or even less of an improvement than the GTX280.

Exactly so send back or sell the GTX 280 and wait for the next generation cards. Even ATI doesn't deliver what I want, their cards are power hungry at idle.

Sell it on the MM. You'll get your money back quicker that way. Try asking for your original purchase price (I assume £229) and you should get a taker.

Just keep it. :) Sell the 8800gt for ~£70, sell the 22" monitor for ~£80, put a few towards it and get a 24" monitor :D

lol nah too late. The 8800GT is already back in my PC and the 280 GTX has been RMA'd.

I'm sure it's a great card but from what I saw it didn't provide me with anything special over what I already have (The 8800 GT is considerably overclocked)

that 280 is a Good card for the Price you paid for it!

its best out there Atm. In terms of single solution Performance

Surprising tho. Didn't think the gtx280 was a massive leap over my old 8800gtx, but I'd never trade back all the same :) Power draw is high at load, but actually lower on the desktop.

Not if you connect a second monitor it isn't. 166w with the GT with 2 connections

175w with the GTX 280 on one connection and 209w!! with 2 screens connected. Shocking figures...

all this talk of power consumption confuses me. Why does it matter if a more powerful GFX card uses 43w more power? Is this climate change conciousness raising, concern over high electricity bills, or fear of an overworked psu?
