right ive bought a new psu 500watt see my previouis post...

now ive plugged it all in and then realised its came with a 20 pin mainboard connector and a seperate 4 pin connector.. the other was just all one 24 pin connector am I right just to plug the 20 pin in and then the 4 pin connector next to it?

Yes, older power supplies tend to come with the 20 pin and the 4 pin connector attached but with the modern power supplies such as the one you have purchased, this format is more ideal towards other kinds of motherboards.

So yes, just plug in the 4 pin next to the 20 pin and you're good to go.

hmm ive dnoe this and all taht happens is all my fans are spinning fast but nothing is coming on screen any ideas ?

~I plugged the 4 pin in into the one right next to the mainboard pin connector should the 4 pin be plugged into the one near the cpu socket?

You should also have a completely separate 4 or 8pin connector (it's usually an 8pin split into 2 4pin connectors these days). This must be plugged in to the socket next to the CPU.

yep ive done that but there is not another 4 pin connector for the socjket near the cpu, there is just one and thats pluigged in next to the 20 pin mainboard one?

Wait a second - you've bought a modular PSU haven't you? You need to look in the box for a 4pin or 8pin cable to plug in the PSU and then the other end in the CPU power connector.

Perhaps hes only got a 8pin ATX and doesnt know that you can plug it into a 4pin on the board with half hanging of the end?
