I've got this packard bell and i'll give you the spec tomorrow as it's late and i have to be up at 5 but i'd like a new case or upgrade this one... new fans bit of lighting.

My questions are these ..

what case would this rig fit ?

and where could i buy some decent noise dampening that you can cut yourself as i don't think i'll find precut for this case.

and have any of you wrapped a case in vinyl, i'm thinking brushed aluminium and pure matt black... where could i get it ???

Assuming the motherboard and PSU is a recognisable ATX (mATX, ATX etc) form factor you should be able to recase it easily. The trouble with prebuilt branded PCs is that sometimes they aren't quite standard, either the board and PSU or sometimes the rear I/O shield is integrated into the case.

Had this problem with a HP workstation I owned many moons ago, ended up modding the new case to fit the different form factor.
Waste of time to be honest, it worked fine, only took a couple of hours but it wasn't the desired "easy case swap" I had envisaged.

MPC73VT-PM motherboard
Intel Quad Core Q6600 @ 2.60GHZ
coolermaster Heatsink CM12v
standard 250w PSU
3GB DDR2 RAM 667
Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA HDD
NVIDIA ENGT220 1GB Graphics with (VGA DVI + HDMI output)
DVD-RW
Wireless
Windows 7, Office 2010, Card Reader

I need to upgrade the PSU soon and i want a new case this one is too noisy, would like something with around 5 fans too improve airflow and if push comes to shove i'll get a liquid cooler for the CPU because this one is LOUD!

any recommendations now that i know the motherboard... i would like something that has good cable management... i was thinking...

Cooler Master Elite 430 Windowed Case

BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Case - Black

Cooler Master Elite 371 Midi Tower Case

I like the shinobi most as it looks mean

This was in the other thread but it's more case orientated.

what could i get anyone got some better ideas ... the most i would like to spend is 60 but i can push for something that will allow further use in the future... also im more of a sllek design guy than an in your face bells and whistles guy a little lighting is nice but side windows don't really bother me as is rather have a fan vent on the side for a CPU cooler

Fractal Design R3 is a lovely case, as is the Define XL, and the Antec P280. All over budget I know but excellent quality, great aesthetics and really good sound damping in all of them

Mine is heavy. I swear if I'm not careful when I unscrew the side I'll damage my floor.

Lovely case though. I'd like to downsize to the R3/4 sometime though.. Fractal cases seem great and have a good look to them. I'd recommend em!

With those specs...something without a window to prevent embarassment.

We all have to start somewhere... and i also have a life away from the desk so i won't be spending 1000 pounds on a PC.

Also there just electrical bits and bobs... all you flashing lights and windows really do is show how vain you are over your money...

wow that seemed an unnecessary attack on people who take pride in their systems that they build? sure the post that started that wasn't fair but just ignore the trolls.

i spent about 1k on my pc but i also have a good social life away from my desk.

It was just as unnecessary to mock the OP's build by saying to avoid anything with a window because of 'embarassing' eternals - some people probably can't afford some of the amazing builds on here, I know I can't!

There's no need for an expensive case for this build, but something like a Shinobi will keep it simple and modern.

Apologies i shouldent have hit out and stereotyped people who build major systems, i would love to own one but i don't have the money... i could build one if i did and probably would so i would be eating my words after that.

It's a personal preferance to have an understated build even if i had a 1000 pound Pc i would not have a window or lights i would have move ventilation for cooling and make it look simple.

To me the parts are just a means to an end.. some of them look visually appealing i admit... and i can fully appriciate the craftmanship behind a good looking rig...

Pc building is like any other enthusiast/ hobby activity, people really love doing it and it gives them great pride... i build guitars and paint/design i wouldent like it if you had a hit at me...

Trolls will be trolls

It's each to their own. My current setup cost me about £150 :p My last PC was about £1k. I get roughly the same enjoyment from both, though I have little time these days, and no BF3 for a while

Ive left BF3 since they added the rent a server and changed all the weapons , really got frustrated with it all.. i had completed it all anyway.. theres only so much ass kicking you can do till you get bored
