Bought an EU type PSU

Hi all

I made the mistake of buying an EU type PSU and realised today during the build process... Is there anyway around it without buying or returning this PSU

They make EU PSU's differently to UK ones? Do you mean simply you've got an EU>IEC rather than UK>IEC at which point just use your old one.

Yeah sorry I mean the plug has 2 pins instead of 3 points.. I don't have an old one as I sold it

Be far easier to buy a cable than to return the psu and get another. I've always found psu's generally come with both types of cable though.

Can I just buy any power cable or a certain amp? I thought it would have an adapter but no not in this one

The PSU will work in EU, UK, US ...
They used to have a switch for 120/240, now it is automatic.
Use a different kettle lead.

What amp fuse will I need as don't want to blow anything up

Your new PSU has the same socket on it as an electric kettle?

If so, you want a UK plug to IEC C13 cable. If I remember correctly, you can get them in a number of lengths from 25cm up to 5 metres. Just about any electrical goods outlet should have some.

6A or higher for a 1000W PSU.

You won't blow anything! Dear god. Devices draw the power, the size of a fuse does not dictate how much power is pushed to the device. A fuse merely stops a device drawing too much.

For a PC you can get away with a nice boring 5A fuse.

VoltagexCurrent=Watts

5A fuse @ 240v = 1200w
However you lose a bit through inefficiency so if you have a PSU higher than 1000w yeah go mad, stick an 8 or 10 in. Otherwise 5A is plenty.

Cables outside of the UK don't even have a fuse in them. It is a safety feature, it doesn't stop your PSU from drawing too much power.

I have a collection of these cables which seem to breed in my spares. If you keep spares, it could be worth checking there first.

Monitor leads often fit! like the old CRT's most kettles don't have a separating lead any more

Ive two kettles one has a big round plug and other won't fit as firmly attached inside base of kettle!!! Most kettles no longer have a plug-plug leads monitors do though
