Bought first MBP 13"

Cheers Raymond - good pics there (knew they would be - why I asked). As I thought its more a permanent thing - does it add much to the dimensions as Ill be putting mine into a foofbag as soon as Ive decided which design...

Just noticed theres a Sheer version - is that the same as your one or a different thing?

EDIT: Does it affect the magsafe connector?

Magsafe connector? the power? it doesn't affect it in any way, goes just as before, charges just as before.

I dunno what is the sheer version....I know mine is the clear one, not the satin one, as i read that can peel...?

I don't think it would fit the foof if its tight already but then you wouldn't need to once its in the Speck, almost everything is covered. I do have a Paul Frank case which is a little loose before the speck, now fits perfectly.

I also have the Paul Smith Mini bag (i know......), which has that compartment for the MBP, the speck goes in there snugly now.

Sorry I meant the Satin one - cheers for the heads up as I originally was looking at the Black Satin one a while ago - Ill avoid the Satin version then.

By the connector I meant the orientation as it can go both ways usually - I actually change it depending if Im using it on charge or not.

I was gonna get a leather Crumpler sleeve but gave up finding one that fits the 15" unibody - the foof should be more forgiving...

According to users on Macrumours the Satin ones can peel after a while.

And I've only tried putting the power connector in 1 way, even before i had the Speck, with the cable away from the MBP, the other way would be silly, covering the other sockets?

Never used the sockets - but good point...

Will have a look when Im next in the Apple Store - be nice if they did a Smoked version or something...

They always have the clear one (i didn't like), and the red and pink one.....

I only ever seen the blue on i have ONCE, even online, i have never seen it in stock anywhere ! So I napped it pronto.

I've seen the black clear one though, and Incase make their own version too.

I moved to a MBP for my 'home' laptop recently and I have to say, as a previous Apple hater, I'm almost convinced it was a good buy.

Trackpad - excellent, especially the gestures and momentum scroll (a-la iPhone)
Screen - excellent
Backlight - almost painful to use on full brightness
OSX - takes some getting used to but perfectly functional. Expose is brilliant when you have 15 SSH sessions open. Safari renders incredibly fast.
Alu finish - looks sexy but it's almost as if it's designed to get scratched easily. I've already picked up 5 scratches. Lucky I don't have OCD :p.
Battery life - better than most.

All in all it's a pretty slick little machine for non-demanding tasks. Whether it justifies the price tag all depends on how it holds up to my abuse. The outgoing Dell survived being dropped many times, being thrown around the floor of our datacentre and being in a car crash.

Arrived just over an hour ago and have been playing around with it - its amazing!

Everything is beautifully smooth and streamlined although I'm still getting used to the way OSX deals with everything. One of the other things that drew me to it was the keyboard, and it does not disappoint, typing already seems more accurate due to the spacing of the keys. Screen is a tad reflective, but thats natural, coming from a matte screen.

Have been installing a few apps and testing out several features; everything is great so far. Any reason some people don't favour Safari? I haven't had any issues with it yet.

Also, Adium is made of win

Quick question - is there any easy way to clean up the dock? I have far too many icons on there, was wondering if there are any apps or something that will rearrange it or something because I'm too lazy to do it myself...

pull it up, let it go, it goes POOF !

It's still in APPLICATION folder, that you can drag it back it.

You can also drag and move it around, and in Preferences you can change its size and auto hide too.

I find the dock is much better on the side of the screen, rather than the bottom. I also shrink it down a fair bit too. As for cleaning it up, it is not difficult to do it yourself! When I got my MBP a few months ago I basically removed everything from the dock and repopulated it with only stuff I use frequently.

As for Safari, it is nothing special and since I use FF on all my other machines, I saw no reason not to use FF on my MBP. Just because it is an Apple machine doesn't mean I have to use their stuff for everything! :p

I also love how applications don't really close, they just 'hide' themselves with no impact on performance at all. Amazing!

And yeah, didn't realise it was that simple... cleaning dock manually now :)

Also, this Alfred application is awesome. alt-space to bring it up, then can search or load and app in seconds. I bought a mac for the productivity and I'm not disappointed thus far!

I put invisihield on my mbp. Works really well. Preserves the looks, makes it scratch proof and durable. And doesn't add any bulk at all really

Well its been a few weeks now and I have to say that Im loving the simple ease of use offered by OSX. The MB pro's battery is shocking when I compare it with my old dell which is roughly 1 and half years old which only lasted an hour max. Everything just works!
However I am still learning, as I only realised that two fingers on the trackpad clicking right clicks something today :D.

You do realise that you can two finger scroll as well?
