My Mother-in-laws Fridge Freezer went pop on Saturday, so, after hearing all the good reviews about AO, she (with the help from my Bro-in-law) went online and bought a replacement from them, paying extra for Sunday delivery and taking the old one away!

Que Sunday at 1:30pm...

AO delivered the Fridge ordered, but it has a Euro Plug on it!! Not a UK 3-pin 13A plug!! Not wanting to invalidate any warranty by re-wiring, it was rejected and sent back... Mo-in-law is not happy! They wouldn't refund the Sunday delivery or the 'Scrappage' charge!!

But they said they will 'check' and ship a new one...

Que Today at 1pm

AO delivered the Fridge ordered, but, AGAIN, it has a Euro Plug on it!! Not a UK 3-pin 13A plug!! Apparently, according to AO "That's how this model comes!"... it doesn't say that on the Website! Plus I call No disguised swearing Don't UK electricals have to have a UK 13A plug on them to conform to CE or summut!!! Are AO selling Grey Imports at UK prices!?!

Any Advice on who needs to know, weather anyone needs to know, what sort of rubbish AO are sparking to a 65 year old Technophobe!!

When i used to sell Liebherr products they would come with a Euro plug but had a UK adapter fitted.

Cutting the plug shouldn't cause any issues, many people do it as they have then wired to a fused outlet or have the wire coming up through a worktop.

You'll probably find that they state in t&cs somewhere that they might come with euro plug. So first thing is check them.If it does then you are in the wrong, a simple adapter or cut and put a new plug on is all you need to do.

Many cheap EU wide sites source products and ship with wrong plug on.

I'd ask them for an adapter free of charge. Which fridge is it, can you supply a link? It would interesting to see if the EU plug is mentioned anywhere in the item's description.

Anything sold in the UK should come with a UK plug fitted or an adaptor, but if you got a good price and everyone's happy anyway just lop the EU one off and stick a UK one on. No one's going to question it if it goes pop six months down the line.

I would have thought that if it didn't come with a UK Plug then it was not fit for purpose! While I understand that the OP just has to lop off the plug but its not his job and I wouldn't put it past a big reseller to try and get out of a warranty claim any way they could so if I was going to do it I would make sure I got it in writing prior to doing it.

why would it not be fit for purpose?
its how many cheap shops work(i don't know if ao is one of them) they source from other countries. meant to have an addpater though. they still work on uk mains.
if ao is one, then they could be right, there might not be a uk version of that model.

Because you can't stick an EU plug into a UK socket and they provide no way of doing so?
Therefore in the strictest sense of the phrase it's of sod all use to someone in the UK.

What a mountain out of a molehill this thread is? It can be resolved for under a tenner. Even at minimum wage your time sorting through other mean this is worth more than just buying an adaptor.

you ask for teh missing adapter rtaher than send the whole thing back. again depending what T&cs say.

its just missing a small piece, it isn't unfit for purpose.

I think there is some law or guideline that states electrical good sold in the uk must come wit ha UK plug. Most retailers can get away with selling EU goods by providing one of those damn awful adopters that makes the plug stuck outwards from the wall.

For the sake of everyone being happy, buy a plug for £1 and get it wired on.

I am sure there were regs about a decade or so ago that all CE devices sold in this region had to be fitted with the right plug......

Although when we Brexit.. maybe that won't be such an issue.. and you'll just have to suffer it.

are you SURE you checked the packaging for the adapter??

I bought a fridge from AO and it come with a euro plug but in the polystyrene packing was the adapter.

Basically this

£1.85

Seems a bit mad to send a fridge back, new one delivered etc all over something that could be fixed for £2
