Hey guys,

I bought this system, but it doesn't seem to be running at 4.2GHz properly.

*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz @ 4.20GHz Max / Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 Intel X58 DDR3 Motherboard / Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel DDR3 Bundle

I have the ocuk 4.2 profile loaded in the bios.

Here is a pic of the cpu details: http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9523/20794454.jpg

It also says in Windows that it is running at 2.66GHz.

What could be causing this?

Thanks.

Now i might be wrong, but, i always thought the cpu never performed its full clock speed unless put under the load that required it to deal with it. Most likely wrong.

Yep, you can see its down at the 12x multi

210x12 = 2520
210x20 = 4200

Its intel SpeedStep kicking in and downclocking when idle, nothing to worry about. Put it under some load and you will see it go back up.

This really needs to be stickied :(

I remember that thread, though I think OCUK have a limit to the amount of stickies they have, not sure where I heard that though..

we use speedstep on our overclocks, there is no point in your system running at 4.2ghz all the time.

CPUz reads the clock speed on the fly and will give you an accurate readout of the overclock.

windows properties tends to only display the stock speed of the chip

Can anyone confirm the pic above is to do with speedstep? Because when playing a game, the bus speed stays at 134.9.

looks like stock to me,

go into your bios and hit F12

this will give you the OCUK profile to load

There should be an offical *PLEASE READ* Sticky About thease OC bundles this question gets asked like every other day.

Well I had the profile running all yesterday, and it was working fine. I turn on pc today, and its gone back to the settings in the 2nd pic.

They should print out a guide and put it with the PC on delivery maybe?

Apparently they tried this before, didn't help at all, still same amount of query's.

People pay the premium for OCuK support not a piece of paper I spose :D
