I bought Portal 2 from CeX after seeing the hot UK deal which was Portal 2 for a tenner (I don't know if linking to it is allowed but it's easy enough to find).

What I received was a second hand copy of Portal 2 which contained no serial key of the sort. All the DVD case contained was the disc.

Has anyone dealed with CeX before? I just want a valid serial key for portal 2 or a refnud. I sent them an e-mail but I want to know what my chances are of getting a refund or serial key.

What rights do I have if they become difficult to deal with?

You don't get PC games second hand for this very reason.

It wasn't advertised as second hand.

The item was listed as:

Portal 2 (S)

and going on their website, the (S) apparently means:

Some items will have an (S) at the end of the description on our website, this represents the requirement for the item to remain sealed.

although in practice, apparently it means the game will be in the state it would be in if it were sealed.

I wouldn't trust anything they say online, only buy from them in store where you can see what the goods are. I had exactly the same with them before along with manuals not arriving but I did get a full refund in one out of two cases.

I wouldnt buy anything form CEX, It seems like all the chavs hang around the store, I think everything in there is stolen lol

lol, i agree really. ive bought a few things from them online and theyve arrived totally battered. i wont use them again, they just wouldnt know which games need to be registered or with one time use key codes.

I always check these days if I buy from any Retailer and make sure they list is as New And Sealed and also if its a third party I always check there feedback :) so far so good no real problems.
But What ever you do don't buy software from third party's a lot of them seem to be fakes even more then games :/

CEX is not somewhere you would ever want to buy a PC game from they buy them used so for at least 2-3 years this means the game is worthless if it uses Steam/GFWL!!

Get a refund unless you can get a brand new copy from CEX (unlikely unless you paid by credit card). Portal2 uses Steamworks which means unless someone sells you a used copy & gives you the Steam account (both of which are against the Steam T&C's BTW) its worthless used.

There are some genuine bargains to be had in CeX and some absolute tripe. Best to buy in shop as then you at least see the quality of what you are getting (varies a lot with it being second hand) and the items do usually state they were sealed when they arrived - bought a few copies of portal for people when they were £12 and not had a single problem (ordering online is a crapsack lottery though).

Usually use it for getting hold of old games on the cheap to satisfy my nostalgia etc and the odd other cheap find. Rise Against - The Unraveling for £1 for example.

My boss owns a few CEX stores and they do have some cracking deals, however mainly on DVD series etc, on the othere hand though they also have some utter tripe in there too...For example a brand new Amazon kindle will set you back £111 direct from Amazon with delivery, from CEX a second hand one will set you back £115  dosnt make sense to me.

And no there both the non 3g varients, and Amazon offer the best warrenty policy ive yet seen so they cant even claim to beat that.

B.O. and Goths put me off ever going back into a CeX store.

Seems like a prerequisite to getting a job there.
