Hi,

I picked up a Samsung R710 2.4Ghz from ocUK on saturday.

I've noticed in the memory compartment I've got an extra slot, from research on the internet it would suggest it's a Intel Turbo Memory slot. ocUK doesn't appear to sell these via there shop but a quick search on google reveals I can pickup a 1GB version for around £25 pounds. Has anyone else here used Turbo cache and is it worth it?

AFAIK, it works the same as ReadyBoost; giving a small boost in speed / disk read times.

I would recommend it, as ReadyBoost has greatly improved friends' Vista 'snappiness'.

Hi mate,
well had one in my R70 which i fitted, but to be honest i didn't notice much if any difference myself, so i removed it and went back to XP pro from Vista wasn't that impressed with Vista either, maybe if you use the lappy out and about on battery might see a slight diffence.
have you had a read up on the pro and cons?

anyhow hope this helps, just my 2p worth :)

PS: if AHCI mode was not enabled at the time you installed Vista then the the module will not work straight off you will need to do this below: fit the module then start lappy and go into bios
" Simple solution:
Start with IDE mode selected in the BIOS, and boot Windows Vista.
Exit all Windows-based programs.
Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
Reboot, and change to AHCI mode in the BIOS.
Windows will detect some changed hardware (anything connected to a SATA port). "
