The reason why I ask is that when I phoned OC up they said it IS the same. I'm suspicious.
I know the Core 2 duo is better than dual core and I'm convinced that what I have isn't that.

I paid for this item: Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail

I got this item today. Label says: Pentium (R) Dual Core Processor E2180 LGA775, 2GHz, 800FSB

Note the stock number is the same on the site and on the box (*CP-171-IN). Have the put the wrong sticker on?

Am I wrong or is the OC sales guy mistaken?

It is the right CPU, the low end Dual Cores are all badged as Pentiums. It helps confuse the consumers.
You have got a good CPU, don't be misled bythe Pentium name. :)

The sticker says its an E2180 this model number was never used for the older dual core pentiums only for the core2duo so it should be fine

The Pentium Dual Core line are branded as Pentiums. But that's as 'Pentium' as they get. They're actually based on the Allendale core as the Core 2 Duo E4000 series. They're Core 2 processors in all but name.

Basically the difference is the Pentium Dual Core E2000 series have 1MB L2 cache to the E4000 series 2MB and the E6000 series 4MB. (also the E6000 use the Conroe core, but that makes very little difference to you or me)

Or to curb sales from their otherwise excellent E2000 line so that people pay more money for the higher end models as they're branded 'Core 2' as opposed to 'Pentium'?

Thanks very much. I really appreciate all the replies. Bewildered to say the least by the confusion; that isn't it Itel's, OC or anyone elses interests to market them like that.

Superb guys. This site is better than any hotline. I may ask for your advice for OC it; never done it before. Not interested on OC it till its on the verge of going bang. I don't have any water cooling gadgets. Got several fans and thats all. Anyway more later; need to first get it together now. :D

Well, strictly its misnamed on the ocuk site. Its not a Core 2 Duo even if it does use the same architecture (allendale core).

They should be using this image
