I was buying some discount fifa points on a cdkey website, a reputable one

I bought fifa 17 points instead of fifa 18 in my haste.. didnt look at key, didnt use it

I emailed them 5 minutes after order and explained my mistake, they said they cant refund, they can only resell it on to other people

well that doesn't work, because no one plays fifa 17 anymore, and no one is buying fifa points for me

they said they cant refund as they cant guarantee to merchant that this hasnt been used

any ideas on how to get money back? I paid with paypal

Suck it up and read the description properly next time.

well I thought I was buying fifa 18 instead of fifa 17, so you can excuse my haste, as I don't see why people are still selling fifa 17 points, who in their right mind would buy them? well, me.. by accident

The page says " You can return unused products within 7 days as long as you have purchased the Customer Protection Program for that product. "

so I don't know why they are being difficult

Surely legally you can't excuse your "haste" over a completley self timed transaction?

Its a key that' only value is in its secrecy they can't be sure you won't just use it after they refund you.

But why would the refund you for delivering exactly what you asked for?

well reasons for my haste probably won't do any good, but I rushed it, its team of season and wanted some cheaper fifa points, so yeah I clicked on fifa 17 instead of fifa 18, its an easy mistake to make

They should refund me, because I have no idea why people are selling fifa 17 points anyway, it was an honest mistake.. its not like I asked for grand theft auto and got sonic hedgehog, theres a 1 number difference in the title

Perhaps if you had paid a bit more attention to why you had a some 'cheap' fifa points on your computer offered for sale the reason would have been quite apparent?

For digital purchases you only have refund rights if the product is faulty......

The consumer must also acknowledge that once the download starts they will lose their right to cancel.

The problem is that you got what you paid for, and unfortunately those grey market key resellers are marketplaces for resellers rather than shops selling digital items. I'm not sure you're going to have any joy since distance selling regulations don't apply to private sellers and the argument might be that that's who you purchased from. The buyer shield is just to ensure that if you get a bad key then they suck up the costs.

I can see their point of view

Please note that as earlier mentioned, we are unable to provide a guarantee to the merchant that the key has not been used.

From the moment you have received the key, the only way you can be refunded is to accept the resale offer.

Suck it up and be more careful unfortunately. They don't have a requirement to refund you just because you screwed up. Might have been a bit different with a direct retailer but that's not what they are.
