Hi, I have been following the progress of this game for a while, and a new vid was recently released, and it isn't looking bad.

We present Bound by Flame to you with the very first screenshot of the game. This action/role-playing game lets you play a mercenary possessed by a flame demon in an ambitious Dark Fantasy universe.
As a victim of this demonic influence, players will have to choose between the powers offered by this evil or to reject the demonic influence, developing heroic talents instead. Dangers, and enemies becoming more terrifying and fearsome in battle, will be temptations to acquire more power by giving up part of the hero's soul to the demon. Progression of the demonic influence will be reflected by the transformation of the hero's body.

Through its different chapters, Bound by Flame will offer many quests around a primary, epic adventure. Depending on the choices made by the player and the influence of the demon, some chapters will offer different scenarios and a different experience, adding important replayability to the game. Real-time battles are impressive and dynamic. If the player begins the game knowing only the basics of combat, fire magic, and assassination, he will be able to specialize by unlocking and improving many skills and powers, through 3 different skill trees.
Bound by Flame lets the players customize their character. During the creation of their hero, players will be able choose their gender and freely alter their facial characteristics. This will of course have an influence on the demon's appearance. Bound by Flame also includes a crafting system, allowing them to create and improve equipment, including their armor and weapons. Several companions will join the player during his quest, and will, depending on the player's actions, develop friendship, romance or rivalry.
Finally, the bestiary of Bound by Flame is rich and spectacular. Today's screenshot introduces you to the terrifying Swamp Beast, but you will get to fight many other impressive creatures: shadow dragons, liches, undead, ice creatures... epic confrontations abound. Which path will the players take? Will they lust after the demon's power and magic to annihilate their foes, or will they favor their combat skills and their bravery?
(this was announced in February btw!)

It is developed by the small French studio Spiders, who's previous game was Mars: War Logs, and this looks very similar(too similar if you ask me tbh). Mars:War logs was a frustrating, very rough around the edges game, that showed a lot of potential considering the tiny budget and it being on of the studio's first games. In fairness though, Spiders took on a lot of feedback on the game, and patched it very well throughout, even re-recording a lot of the dialogue(which made no sense!)....I remember saying at the time that War Logs was too rough, but it was worth keeping an eye on the devs next game, as it could be pretty good....well this is it.

Gameplay looks pretty similar to War Logs really, which had a very solid mainly mele based combat system, supported by magic. This looks pretty much the same tbh. It also had a pretty deep crafting/skill tree so it will be interesting to see how they have developed that....Just don't expect pretty looking graphics!

I just hope it doesn't suffer from the same translation problems that War Logs did...it was beyond bad!

It is due out some time this year....I'm cautious, but it is worth keeping an eye on:)

Lost Planet with Swords?

Not a bad thing mind.

My problem is I have no faith in Focus has a publisher to give it the backing and support it needs.

A fair concern.

Whilst it looks good from what has been shown so far, I have to bear in mind how rough War Logs was. I just hope they have learned from it. It is certainly worth keeping an eye on though, as the Studio has some great ideas and ambition

I can handle rough around the edges, adds character to a game, as long it is not game breaking.

Too many "AAA" games are filed down to the point of being a square cube.

Nice OP, I've never heard of it before but it's certainly now on the radar!

The combat looks really good, sort of Dark Souls meets the Witcher ? Let's hope they can do it justice and deliver a decent action RPG.

New trailer

Looking pretty good imo. It will be interesting to see whether Spiders can live up to their potential.

The story looks like it is basically A Song of Ice and Fire, so basically just the standard fantasy stuff, but this should at least be a bit darker than the usual fantasy games, more along the lines of the Witcher series

Released on May 9th

Bound by Flame, the new RPG developed by Spiders studios, will be released on May 9th on PlayStation®4, PlayStation®3, Xbox 360® and PC. Today, the game offers a new glimpse of what's in store with a new series of exclusive images of some of the ferocious creatures you'll have to face in your numerous quests!

The bestiary you will confront in Bound by Flame is impressive, rich and varied. Conceived and brought to life by the talented teams at Spiders studios, these creatures are as terrifying as they are deadly, and will do their utmost to make your life hell in spectacular, real-time and highly tactical battles. And just how they do that is revealed in the six new screenshots we urge you to check out now!
The strategic depth of the combat system in Bound by Flame has been made possible mainly through the variety and originality of the game bestiary. Each creature has its specific attacks, special skills and, in particular, individual behavior that will force the player to adapt his tactics and combat style depending on the composition of the groups of enemies he encounters. This, combined with the awesome range of strikes available to the player, the use of magic and the incredible combat animations, contributes to make the battles in Bound by Flame both tactically complex and visually stunning.
A video dedicated to the combat system in Bound by Flame will also be unveiled in the coming weeks!

Still looks like a series of corridors to me, but it does look quite nice. I will be getting it purely because it coincides with a holiday I have booked from work.

My biggest worry is that the studio is too small to achieve everything they are going for.
