Boxee

It works well - I used it on my mac mini for quite a while until I discovered XBMC and installed that. XBMC can take a little more setting up (the hardest thing IMO was setting the sources but it is infact incredibly easy - just not common sense) but once done is a fantastic piece of software.

What I am looking forward to from boxee, though, is the boxee box by d-link.

OK, seriously impressed.

I lost my HTPC remote, and been using LogMeIn to log in and play a movie!

Boxee has done away with this - I installed the Boxee iPhone app, and I can use it as a boxee remote. Very responsive, perfectly suited to the software!

The "apps" on Boxee work suprisingly well - youtube not too bad, iPlayer is just amazing. SO nice to get it on the HTPC.

It's adding movies at the moment, then we'll see what sort of info scraping it's done and if it plays well

So far - absolutely incredible for a 45mb download

i gave this a quick try with just 1 small folder full of films and it got half of them wrong :(
i can understand it getting the films mixed up with ones with the same name but some are just plain weird what it says they are lol
oh well back to setting it all up manually in media centre :)

Yeah it got about 15% of them wrong for me - I think my naming might be a bit off. Renaming with the year fixes this.

Youtube within boxee works better than all other media centres

just looking into installing boxee, but from what I can tell it lets people see what you have watched.... can this be turned off? do you have to login to boxee to use the app?

This is an optional feature. You have to go and link your Boxee account to your Facebook/Twitter accounts for it to do this, and even then you have to actually go to 'Share'.

Boxee is ace, I have it on my Acer HTPC, plays everything I can throw at it, but as I opted to install x64 Arch Linux, I am unable to play YouTube etc due to issues with Boxee not working with 32bit flash.

They got this working on x64 machines yet? I seem to remember that being the reason why I hadn't tried it.

Also I think the remote looks ace!
