My girlfriend is forever having a go at me because I keep the boxes for everything I buy (valuable items, such as PC parts, AV stuff). Do you throw yours out or keep it? What value is there in keeping it beyond adding a few % to the items resale price? I have a few cupboards worth!

Depends what it is, if it's an expensive electrical item I'll keep the box. Helps if I ever need to RMA or if I want to sell the product on. I also have this weird trait where I will open boxes with a sharp knife instead of just tearing the Sellotape with my hands. Nothing worse than a box with half of the design removed from tearing the Sellotape!

They should make them so that they are a lot easier to flat pack, they take up so much room.

You can flat pack them. Most of them you just open the ends and they'll fall flat. It's how they're stored in the factory before goods go into them. For bigger boxes, just cut the tape along the bottom as well as the top and they collapse flat too.

The only problem with that is what do you do with the packaging inside?

I've found newer boxes are coming with collapsable packaging too. I know my motherboard did. I think my graphics card did. Those can be folded flat too and still kept in their original box folded flat.

You're screwed if you've got foam / polystyrene or that cardboard eggshell stuff though.

I quite often keep the packaging but generally only for the larger items as it helps if I've got to move it on moving house. I have kept boxes for some smaller electrical equipment in the past but I'm unlikely to do so again as I don't tend to resell it all that often.
